Rapid growth and rising sales contribute to Marco’s Pizza’s recognition as second-fastest-growing chain in the United States
Marco’s Pizza® continues to receive national accolades, with the most recent being ranked again as the No. 2 fastest-growing restaurant chain in the United States by Nation’s Restaurant News (NRN), as well as debuting on NRN’s Top 100 report. With a 23.7 percent sales growth increase compared with last year, Marco’s also ranked No. 4 in total number of U.S. units growth with a 15.4 percent unit growth increase compared with 2015.
For more than 40 years, the NRN Top 100 report has ranked large restaurant chains and parent companies based on U.S. sales, unit counts, growth, market shares and other metrics. The annual, industry-leading report has been used as a benchmarking tool for restaurants, suppliers, distributors and analysts to track restaurant brands, private-equity ownership and segment momentum.
Marco’s Pizza prides itself on making the best delivery pizza money can buy, and our growth is testament to our devoted fans nationwide. Marco’s Pizza is handmade in the Italian tradition, using fresh, never-frozen cheeses, making the dough in stores daily and using only premium meats and vegetables. Founded in Toledo in 1978, Marco’s is the only Top 20 pizza chain founded by a native Italian. Our pizza franchise has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years and is on pace to have 1,000 restaurants open by the end of 2017.
“We are beyond thrilled about the latest Top 100 ranking released by Nation’s Restaurant News, and even more excited to be recognized as the No. 2 fastest-growing chain,” says Marco’s President and COO Bryon Stephens. “We have achieved this milestone through hard work. Our dedicated team members focused on both the success of our brand and building strong relationships with the customers in the communities they serve. We look forward to continued success and sharing our delicious pizza with even more fans across neighborhoods nationwide.”
Marco’s Pizza focused on rapid, strategic growth
The overall U.S. pizza segment also continues to grow, totalling $20 billion in sales, up 6.83 percent from last year. It also saw a total U.S. unit increase by 1.2 percent from 23,790 units a year ago to 24,076 units, according to the NRN report.
The NRN rankings are a testament to Marco’s Pizza’s continued growth in 2016, with an average new store opening at a pace of every third day. Marco’s rolled out 113 new franchises in 2015 and has recently announced plans to open 150 more locations in 2016. Our company leadership also reiterated at our recent annual conference our ambitious goal of having 1,000 stores open across the nation by the end of 2017.
Marco’s is continuing its growth through a combination of strategic franchise partnerships and initiatives, such as the recent introduction of an apprenticeship program aimed at recruiting veterans into the franchise system and putting them on the fast track to business ownership.
