New franchisees will spend about six weeks in a Marco’s University pizza store, learning how to make the dough from scratch and how much sauce, cheese and toppings to put on each pizza. Our franchisees learn from us the minute details about running a pizza franchise. We can teach you how to make the dough, stretch the crust and bake the pizzas, sure. And we also can teach you how to read your profit-and-loss paperwork. We can teach you how to market your store in your neighborhood, endearing yourself to every school, home and business within a three-mile ring around your store.
Business skills are also on the training agenda: conflict management, leadership, financing, market analysis, insurance requirements and leasing issues. We provide guidance in every area of running a Marco’s Pizza franchise with the goal of ensuring your success. To that end, if franchisees aren’t quite ready at the end of six weeks to run their own operations, they may spend another two weeks in the training store to build skills and confidence.
“With the area representative model, a lot of support comes from that AR,” says franchisee Stu Field of Nashville. “When I need support, then I can call Marco’s. If a new franchisee were to come into this area, they would go through six weeks of in-store training. They would do all the jobs from delivery to making the pizzas. Most of the ARs also own stores, so it’s kind of a matter of what’s good for the goose. When we’re in our markets, if my franchisees aren’t successful, then I’m not successful.”
