Marco’s First on Pizza Today’s list of ‘Up and Comer’ Pizza Franchises

Respected trade publication cites Marco’s as the country’s fastest growing pizza franchise


Marco’s Pizza has been on the rise for years, but it’s fair to say we knocked it out of the park in 2013. One of our proudest achievements happened recently when we were listed as No. 1 on Pizza Today’s 2013 Up and Comer list, which tracks the country’s fastest growing pizza franchises.

Pizza Today also rated Marco’s as the 12th largest national pizza franchise in the U.S, up nine spots from 2012. They referred to Marco’s as “most likely the fastest growing chain in the business.”

When Pizza Today, a highly respected pizza industry source, cites a national pizza chain as an “up and comer,” it means they are seen as big contenders. It puts the pizza industry on alert to competitors who can challenge pizza giants such as Pizza Hut, Domino’s and Papa John’s.

Cameron Cummins, Marco’s vice president of Franchise Marketing and Recruitment, says the buzz surrounding Marco’s is at an all-time high.

“This is a very exciting time for Marco’s,” Cameron says. “The recognition from Pizza Today is one of many indicators that show us that a lot of people are waking up to the Marco’s brand and finding out we’re substantially different than your typical pizza chain.

Don’t expect the excitement and rapid growth to stop.

“We are way beyond being a regional player,” Cameron says, adding that Marco’s is now in 33 states, as well as the Bahamas and Panama, and recently signed a deal to bring 40 Marco’s to Puerto Rico in the next nine years. “At the same time, there are numerous markets where we are greatly under-represented. The opportunities are stunning.”

marcosandsausageNot only has Marco’s doubled in size in the past five years; we anticipate hitting the 500-store tipping point in mid-2014. Meanwhile, there also hundreds of franchisees in the pipeline, and yearly revenue at Marco’s continues to spike upwards.

“More and more people are trying us, liking us and realizing there’s an authentic alternative to what’s being offered out there,” Cameron says. “At Marco’s, it’s all about the quality of the pizza. We don’t dumb down your taste buds. We make our dough from scratch every day, prepare our own sauce and cut our own vegetables.

“It translates into unprecedented growth at Marco’s,” Cameron adds. “We’re defining a new category of best-in-class among national franchises.”
