TOLEDO, Ohio, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Marco's Pizza, a 27-year-old 127-unit chain based here, is setting its growth sites on Pittsburgh where company officials feel there is room for some 40 Marco's Pizza stores in the Steel City area.

According to Jack Butorac, Jr., president of Marco's Franchising, who acquired the franchising rights from Marco's Pizza founder Pasquale "Pat" Giammarco last year; research has pinpointed Pittsburgh as a Marco's growth area.

"With the assistance of MapInfo, a leading global provider of location-intelligence solutions, we have targeted Pittsburgh for Marco's growth," "Since we are based in Ohio, a neighboring state, it makes good business sense to concentrate on Pittsburgh for expansion. We have a proven product, system, an excellent concept, and we are in a growth mode.

"Through the MapInfo technology, we were able to examine the demographics of Pittsburgh and current business climate, and the statistics revealed the Pittsburgh DMA is an ideal Marco's Pizza market."

Butorac said that Marco's representatives would soon be contacting various area business groups and other leaders to help identify potential franchisees. Butorac announced last year his plan to double the current number of Marco's locations and since that time he has added some 42 units including new locations in Ohio, Michigan, Nevada and Arizona.

Giammarco, who remains with the company in charge of concept development and the owner of the Marco's Pizza stores in Northwest Ohio, founded Marco's in 1978. Marco's offers customers a variety of custom made pizzas, fresh baked submarines, salads and soft drinks, and pick up, delivery and limited sit-down service.
